Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared without a trace on the island owned by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, but her uncle is convinced it's murder and the murderer is a member of his own tightly knit and dysfunctional family. He hires a disgraced journalist Mikael Blomqvist and Lisbeth Salander tattooed hakershu to investigate.
